Welcome to Exploring West Virginia! My name is Erik Wells and this has been a dream of mine for sometime. The creation of a website that showcases the people, places and events that make West Virginia a destination for everyone.

Do you like adventure? There’s whitewater rafting, cliff climbing or just a lazy trip down one of our many rivers in a kayak.

Do you just need to escape a large metropolitan area and go to a place where you can see the stars at night? We have that in West Virginia.

Or are you a native West Virginian who has moved away but still connected to the hills and hollows of the Mountain State? I hope the stories here will bring back good memories.

A little bit about me. I was a television reporter and anchor for ten years. I served in the West Virginia State Senate for eight years.  The only times I have left was for military duty. Go Navy!

The state has given me much and I want to give back to show the beauty of the hills, kindness of the people and the endless possibilities for travel and adventure across the state.
